Our
Background
Grantham
Church is a Mennonite Brethren (MB) church and belongs to the Canadian
and Ontario Conferences of MB Churches. Please click here for our

explanation of our beliefs and history, please visit the 'About
Us' section of the Canadian
Conference website.
Our
Purpose
As
a church, we want to be constantly encouraged to grow and become
more passionate followers of Christ, and also helping others to
do the same. The purpose of becoming passionate followers of Christ
is to make a difference in our world, by living the life and love
of Jesus Christ among our neighbours and by finding ways to introduce
them to him.
Our
Vision
We
are a community of people who worship God, who are committed to
personal intimacy with God and to help each other become fully-devoted
followers of Christ. Our mission is to reach out to people in our
communities, serving them and loving them as we live the Kingdom
of God among them.
| For
us, accomplishing this vision will mean… |
| 1. |
People
will matter to us more than program, tradition, or institution.
|
| 2. |
We
will resist being caught up in our own comfort zones, and we
will seek instead to understand where God is leading us, and
follow him.
|
| 3. |
All
who come to any of our services or events, will be welcomed
into our lives and to become our friends, and they will be invited
to join us on a faith journey.
|
| 4. |
People
will be encouraged to discover their God-given gifts and be
equipped to use them in uplifting our church family and in serving
our community.
|
| 5. |
We
will endeavor to enter into the life of our community, building
relationships and working with them in identifying and meeting
needs.
|
| 6. |
We
will provide an environment where worship is seen to be essential
and life-giving to all who come here. |
| Our
Three Initiatives |
Building
Communications
Purpose: To build motivation for the Vision and Purpose
of our Church and to make sure we are effectively communicating
opportunities for ministry so that everyone can be involved. |
| |
Building
Discipleship
Purpose: To build a strategy for spiritual growth that
will involve developing materials, classes and venues, so that
each of us has an opportunity to grow as passionate followers
of Christ and will learn how to make disciples of others. |
| |
Building
Bridges
Purpose: To build relational bridges to our community
of neighbors. |
Confession
of Faith We
believe
in God as eternal Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God created
and sustains the universe. The eternal purpose of God the Father
is to create a people who will bring glory to God forever. God alone
is worthy of worship.
We
believe
that God became human in Jesus Christ. Jesus came to restore the
world because humans have rejected God in disobedience. Jesus taught
and modeled the way of God's kingdom. He died on the cross, making
it possible for us to accept a renewed relationship with God. He
rose from the dead, broke the power of sin and death, and frees
us to live in obedience to God's will.
We
believe
that God the Holy Spirit invites all people to be reconciled with
God and to join the global family of faith. Believers confess their
faith, are baptized, and join in the celebration of the Lord's Supper.
Through the power of the Holy Spirit and guided by the Bible, members
of the church seek to live as followers of Christ and invite others
to experience this new life.
As
Christians we are called to turn...
- from ignorance to God to a personal relationship with God
- from bondage of sin and past mistakes to freedom, forgiveness,
and healing
- from individualism to interdependence with others in the local
church
- from lifestyle choices that harm us, others, and the earth to
choices that nurture wholeness, healing, joy, and peace
- from hating enemies and ignoring neighbours to showing love and
justice to all
- from loving possessions to sharing with all in need
- from aimless existence to a mission of representing and proclaiming
God's kingdom on earth
As Christians we look forward to the day when God will once again
send Jesus to bring all things under God's eternal rule.
